It is not even the middle of February, but I think I already experienced my best day this year! I cannot imagine topping this one.
To begin with, I was notified that one of my submissions was accepted into the Coast Guard Fine Art Program.
.
This is watercolor and ink and depicts an inter-agency, counter-terrorism training excercise that took place here in Tampa Bay. The awards are presented in June at the Salmagundi Art Club in New York City, and I plan on being there- in my Auxiliary uniform!
After receiving this news, I got up the courage to go to the Florida State Fair- open since Feb 7th- to see how I did there in the fine art contest. I had not wanted to go as I did not want to be disappointed, but after receiving the news about the Coast Guard Art Program, nothing could have disappointed me.
I received an Honorable Mention in the "Miscellaneous/ Abstract" Category for "Lora's Moon".
You should remember this:
Next, I received Third Place in the watercolor landscape category. What a surprise! I usually avoid this medium because it is so difficult for me.
The biggest surprise of all: I took FIRST PLACE in the people/portrait division with a 16" x 20" acrylic portrait of my girlfriend's mother!
Ruby was 104 years old when she died. The photograph that I used for her portrait was taken two years before she passed away. (My own photo) I guess what really shocked me is that usually oil portraits win this competition. When the Seminoles go to the State Fair tomorrow, will those ladies be surprised to see that blue ribbon hanging next to their mother's portrait.
What a great day! I don't think I will have another like this in... who knows? As long as it is not all down hill from here!

These are great paintings. I am not surprised that it turned out to be such a great day because they are definitely wonderful!

Thank you! I was freeling so discouraged because all of my work for the last two weeks is in the trash can, and I really needed this to encourage me.
we knew it all the time! They are so good and so many honors! I love portraits and you can see all the living the lady has done in her face.
Ruby was a wonderful person, and a real character until her last year of her life when she seemed to fade all at once. I loved painting her.
Kudos to you. Your creations are lovely, and discouragement is a regular visitor to many of us. Kick that unwanted guest out!
Yes, this really helps to that end. Maybe now I can paint something that I am willing to keep. I really need to get back to my oil paints.
Good for you Dot ... and it's only just begun!!! Jump on and enjoy the ride xxx
Well, I am certainly motivated today, so I need to take advantage of the present 'power surge'.
Sweet! Don't you just love that "cloud nine" feeling! Congratulations on all the honors and awards! (How about the "strawberry fields" painting?
That is for the Strawberry Festival in March. I am going to submit the second one- the closer view of the pickers. I can submit one more, but don't know which one.
Congrats to you, love all that you share here. Good to see you at greasy too.
Hugs...

great job on all of these. The only down side is................HOW DO YOU TOP THAT????

Sigh... My point, exactly! It is likely all downhill from here!
Can't imagine topping this day.
I just typed a congrats to post here, but it vanished. WHAT A DAY
indeed !! I know you have to be very happy, as I would be ! I have
never had any art day closely resemble that !!!!
PS The art you show here is FIRST CLASS !!!!
Thank you so much! I can't get the vibrancy and contrast with watercolor like you go, hence, the addition of ink!
